Frying Pan Park and Kidwell Farm-Need a break from colonial and civil war history? Kidwell Farm in nearby Herndon recreates life in Northern Virginia during the 1920’s, 1930’s and 1940’s. Learn how far farm equipment has evolved over the years. Pet the chickens, sheep, goats and pigs that roam the barnyard. Venture into the Spring Meeting House, the center of political and religious life during that era.

Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens-Our first father had a keen eye for beautiful things including the stunning property that he called home along the Potomac River. A short ride from Reston, Mount Vernon boasts a beautifully restored mansion, extensive landscaping, the tombs of George Washington and his wife, Martha, and numerous outbuildings.

National Monuments in Washington DC
-Undoubtedly the most recognizable symbols in the country, millions make the sojourn to our nation’s capital to view these exquisite testaments to democracy. Read our 16th president’s inspiring words at the Lincoln Memorial. Put your size in perspective with a photo in front of the Washington Monument. Walk along the tidal basin and gaze at the beautiful Jefferson Memorial. Pay respect to those who have sacrificed their lives in the name of freedom with a visit to the Korean War or Vietnam Veterans Memorials.

Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum-Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center
-Opened in December, 2003, the National Air and Space Museum-Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (named for its benefactor) displays thousands of aviation and space artifacts that cannot be exhibited in the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum on the National Mall. Together, these two facilities house the largest collection of aviation and space artifacts in the world. Glimpse the Apollo 11 Command Module, “Columbia”. View the Enola Gay up close. The Udvar-Hazy Center is located at Dulles International Airport, just a short ride from our hotel.

Sully Historic Site
-Suburbia may have sprung up in Northern Virginia, but the past can still be experienced at Sully Historic Site. Appreciate the fine Georgian and Federal architecture of the main house, now on the National Register for Historic Places. Its original owner and builder, Richard Bland Lee, was Northern Virginia’s first representative to Congress and the uncle of General Robert E. Lee. Tour the gardens and original outbuildings. See where slaves lived on the premises. The site offers guided tours and various programs.
