Bull Run Regional Park- In nearby Centreville, scenic woodlands and miles of trails attract visitors. Each season offers a delight. Bluebells and other wildflowers usher in spring. A large outdoor pool refreshes from the hot days of summer. Fall foliage is brilliant and winter heralds the holidays with a festive light display. Chesapeake
and Ohio (C & O) Canal-Todays picturesque towpath belies its busy and hardworking past. The canal served as a transportation route for hauling coal from western Maryland to Washington DC's port of Georgetown from 1829 to 1924. Many original locks and aqueducts remain. Great Falls Park
-Situated along the Potomac River and part of the larger, 800-acre George Washington Memorial Parkway, Great Falls Park is 14 miles upriver from Washington D.C. Explore the historic Patowmack Canal. Manassas
National Battlefield-Established in 1940, this park played a pivotal role in the Civil War. Once the site of fierce fighting, it is now a tranquil refuge from the hectic pace of life today. Tour the battlefield in your car. Bring your binoculars so you can spot the elusive barn owl or Eastern Meadowlark. Washington & Old Dominion Trail
-Formerly the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad, this beautiful trail wends its way through suburban neighborhoods as well as pastoral countryside. Known as the "skinniest park in Virginia", it is also one of the longest at 45 miles. Just 100 feet wide, it is a popular trail for many recreational activities.
